Arguing Abortion

I've been working on my apologetics skills recently, and found many good arguments against abortion in the Bible.

Abortion is the killing of a child in the mother's womb. Unfortunately, many people say that the child is not a person with rights while in the womb.

However, God is the source of life and every human being deserves human rights. It is important to know that the child is indeed alive in the womb and should be protected, not slaughtered.

I can find at least four very good arguments against abortion in the Bible, and though there are many more, I will just leave it at these for the time being.

One of these arguments is found in the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah, where it says, 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you' (Jer 1:5).

So you see, it says plainly that the Lord knows and  consecrates a child even before it is in the womb. Have you met a Christian in the proper set of mind who would intentionally murder something that God Himself has consecrated?

Another verse that hammers abortion is Psalm 139:13, where it says, 'For thou didst form my inward parts, thou didst knit me together in my mother's womb.'

Again, you can clearly see why abortion is such a problem. If the Lord Himself  creates a child in the womb, then what can give you the right, being nothing as compared to God, to kill His creation?

The third verse against abortion is found in the book of Exodus. 'When men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that there is a miscarriage, and yet no harm follows, the one who hurt her shall be fined, according as the woman's husband shall lay upon him...' (Ex 21:22).

This verse speaks for itself. He who hurts a woman's child in the womb is to be punished. It doesn't get much more clear than that. Abortion should be punished.

And the last verse which I shall reference right now is Luke 1:41, when Mary visits Elizabeth. 'And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb...'

For those who state that a child in the womb is not a living person, this verse effectively puts that argument to sleep. John the Baptist has to be a living person in the womb if he can leap for joy at Mary's greeting. He MUST be a person, and if killing a five year old boy is murder, than killing a child in the womb is also murder. Period.

I hope you appreciated this post, and please take to mind what I wrote. While I could go into even more detail, I will leave it basic in these four verses.

Tragically, thousands of children are killed every day because they are deemed unimportant. Well they are important. Everybody is loved in the eyes of the Lord, and if he loves them, you should too.

  Thank you for reading.
